Continuing the Fall Classes tradition established by Glenda Lloyd, Paula Parmelee will present all four classes. The first is open to members and the public; the remaining three are for members only. All classes run from 1:00 to 3:00 pm PT.
  1. Oct. 14: Who's Who: Same Name, Different People at the Sylvan Oaks Library, 6700 Auburn Blvd, Citrus Heights. Open to the public.
  2. Oct. 21: Choices, Choices, Choices: Genealogy Websites. Zoom, registration required. Members only.
  3. Oct. 28: Fixing your FamilySearch Tree. Zoom, registration required. Members only.
  4. Nov. 4: Reading Foreign Languages and Old Handwriting Records. Zoom, registration required. Members only.
If you are a member, you should have received an email on Sept. 17
from Root Cellar with a registration link for the three Zoom classes.

Free Event! Stop by the Root Cellar display and say hello!

Every October, in celebration of National Archives Month, archives and special collections libraries from throughout the region open their doors to the public and showcase their rarely seen holdings during the Sacramento Archives Crawl. The Crawl is held at four host institution sites in downtown Sacramento: the California State Archives, California State Library, Center for Sacramento History, and Sacramento Room at the Sacramento Public Library. Free bus transportation is provided between all four locations.

 

At the host sites, the public can view archival collections on display and take behind-the-scenes tours. Representatives from other archives and special collections libraries will also be present at the host locations to display their archival collections, including historic photographs, documents, and objects, and to answer questions about connecting with local history resources.

 

Archives Crawl Passports are given to guests as they visit the host institutions. The passport provides a map of the event and information about the participating institutions. Get your passport stamped at three of the four host sites, and you'll receive a set of limited-edition commemorative coasters featuring archival images that represent that year's theme.

Join this Special Interest Group to learn about this utility time-saver software. The goal of this SIG is to acquaint genealogists on how to use TextExpander.app to increase their productivity in family research. As a group, they create TextExpander snippets for genealogists and share these with anyone who wants to use these helpful aids. Other time-saving software may be discussed. These snippets can be customized to each person’s needs.
